Five P Minus (5p-) Society
The 5p- society was established in 1986 by a group of parents going through hardships as they deal with children suffering from Cri du Chat syndrome. Their aim was to raise awareness and donations for the genetic disorder, in order to further research on the subject. The organization also allowed families to meet and share experiences so that no one would face the tough times alone. They found that sharing with others who understood really helped get them through their everyday lives.
During its 29 years of existence, the 5p- society has collected over 800 families as members, and relies greatly on their donations. The 5p- society has also done fundraisers such as selling "Bravelets", which are bracelets that range from $25-$45, where $10 goes straight to the foundation. This money goes towards research, or therapy for patients and family-members of patients.
Another fundraiser the 5p- society has started was the "5Pie Challenge for 5p" where participants pie eachother in the face for money! Sure, it sounds ridiculous, but everyone enjoys a laugh while supporting a good cause! Additionally, it has raised tons of awareness as everyone became curious about the pie throwing.
Lastly, the 5p- society has created an international Cri Du Chat Awareness Week (as displayed in image above). Countries all around the world such as Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Columbia, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Panama, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Russian, Slovakia, Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Venezuela, and many more will take part in this awareness week. This week will be full of parades and group public outings to raise awareness and money for this rare, genetic disorder.
